4 multinationals open new R&D centres in Chile
Today, September 18th, is the national day in Chile. For this reason, we take the opportunity, from our offices in Santiago, to support this celebration and greet all Chileans and Spanishes in Chile.
In this post, we will discuss about interesting news related to R&D in Chile, which shows an expected increase in patent applications in the region.
In 2014, four new R&D centres are going to be installed in Chile through the attractive program of International Centres of Excellence (CEI).
This program promoted by the Ministry of Economy and CORFO (public organization to promote entrepreneurship and innovation) and initiated in 2011, resulted in the arrival of the first group of public research centres to Chile (Fraunhofer of Germany; CSIRO of Australia; Inria Waganingen France and Holland).
New r&d centres n Chile
On this occasion, there were selected a few private foreign companies that already have R&D centres in their own countries, in order to be installed in Chile. The selected centres are Telefónica (ICT project and Smart Cities Development), GDF Suez Laborelec from France/Belgium (renewable energies), Emerson Electric from United States (mining and metals) and U.S Pfizer (lung cancer research).
The Chilean government’s aim is to impulse R&D and to convert Chile into a regional hub of innovation as element of development of the country.
Besides, links with university and research centres already existing are formed in order to promote the creation of technological cluster.
Patents are the best tool to recoup any investment done in research, and therefore it will be of special interest to protect inventions in Chile, especially considering the possibility to collaborate in the future with these new and innovative technological centres. Not only is it necessary to have your patents in Chile, but it is also advisable to review your Industrial Property policy and your contracts of technology transfer.
In Protectia we have all the resources necessary to guide you through this way.
