Patent registration in OAPI
The processing of patents under this treaty is handled by the African Intellectual Property Organisation (OAPI), which is responsible for receiving the application, carrying out a substantive and formal examination and granting or refusing it.
International Treaty
In order to facilitate and reduce the cost of patenting in the French-speaking countries of the African continent, there is an international treaty ratified by the following 17 states:
- Benin, Equatorial Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali, Cameroon, Mauritania, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Congo, Comoros, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Gabon, Chad, Guinea, Togo.
A physical object that is distinguished by the characteristics of its constitution, including its composition, structure or shape.
Any method, factor or agent leading to the achievement of a result or product.
